Commissioned by Air America, Incorporated, and the United States Central Intelligence Agency
Produced by John Willheim Productions

The film "Flying Men, Flying Machines" is now available online in streaming formats through the Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University.  These are complete versions of the film.
They are nearly 87 minutes in duration.

Here is some additional information that might be helpful.

In what format are these files?  The streaming file format used is Windows Media Video (.WMV).  Most computers with Windows Operating Systems already have Windows Media Player installed and you should be able to play these files automatically without adding any new software to your system.  If you are using an operating system other than Windows, you will have to install Windows Media Player onto your computer if you have not already done so.

Should I play or save the file?  If you are prompted to play or save the file, select "play" if you want the file to "stream" or play while downloading.  Select "save" if you would rather save a copy to your hard drive and view it at a later time.  When saving, note the different file sizes below that are associated with each file as some of them are rather large.  Also, you can select play and watch it while it downloads.  Once the file downloads completely, you can also choose to save the file by selecting "save media as" in the file menu of Media Player.

What do I do if the file will not play on my computer or Windows Media Player gives me an error message?  If the file will not play or stream or if you do not already have Windows Media Player installed, you can download the latest version of that software for your operating system here:  Download Windows Media Player 9

Which file is best for my system and connection?  There are several versions of the streaming file to accommodate different Internet connection speeds (from Telephone Modem connections of 28Kbps to Cable Modem connections of 350Kbps to T1 LAN connections of 10/100 Mbps).  Information about the files and their sizes is provided below.

What do I do if these files just do not play on my computer?  If you experience any problems or difficulties with these files or have any questions or comments, please contact Steve Maxner at the Vietnam Archive, Texas Tech University, via email at steve.maxner@ttu.edu or by phone at 806-742-9010.

Enjoy the movie!

TELEPHONE MODEM CONNECTION FILES:  These two files are low resolution versions of FMFM and have been optimized for telephone modem connections at speeds of 28Kbps and 56Kbps.

What is the buffer?  Depending on your connection speed, it might take a few minutes to download a sufficient "buffer file" before the file begins to play.  You need not wait for this buffering to complete 100% but can press the play button in Windows Media Player at any time during the buffering process.  It might be wise to wait until about 20-30% of the buffer is completed to minimize the number of times the file pauses to download more buffer.  The buffering file progress is indicated in the bottom left corner of the Media Player window.  If the play pauses to download more buffer, again, you need not wait until this finishes 100% but can press play at any time.

How large are these files?  The 28Kbps file is 17 MB in size.  The 56Kbps file is 35 MB in size.

DSL AND CABLE MODEM CONNECTION FILES:  These medium resolution files  are optimized for DSL and Cable Modem connections speeds of 150Kbps and 300Kbps.  If your DSL or Cable Modem connection is faster than 300K, you may want to try the higher resolution file below.

How large are these files?  The 150Kbps file is 92 MB in size.  The 300Kbps file is 216 MB in size.
