(CIA) Bill Lair served with the Central Intelligence Agency in Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam from 1951 to 1980. He established the PARU (The Thai Paramilitary Police Unit) and PARU Jungle Training Facility. The PARU later served as a model for the War in Laos and PARU members served as the primary trainers for the Hmong and other Laotian forces. The interview covers Bill Lair's early life growing up in Texas as well as his experiences as a mortar platoon member in the 3rd Armored Division during WWII. Most of the interview covers events and activities in Southeast Asia.

(USAF) Peter Lappin entered the United States Air Force in 1962. As an F-4 pilot he served with the 555th TFS and the 557th TFS. In Vietnam, he served as a FAC with the 23rd TASS as an O-2 pilot. In addition to bringing the first F-4s into Cam Ranh Bay, Lappin also participated in the rescue of STREETCAR 304 and OPERATION IGLOO WHITE.

Description:
(USMC) Robert G. Lathrop, originally from Walla Walla, Washington served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1965 until 1970 and the USMC Reserve from 1970 until 1972. He first went to South Vietnam in early 1968 as a pilot in the Navy Ferry Squadron 12 when he flew an A-4 from San Diego to Da Nang. He then went back to the RVN for a thirteen month tour, beginning in March 1968, and was stationed at Chu Lai with Marine Attack Squadron 311(VMA-311). Gene flew over 250 combat missions, 50 combat support missions, and served as the VMA-311 Intelligence Officer. He also served as an infantry Company Commander (H and HS 11) for two months before his tour ended in April 1969. Interview conducted by Richard B. Verrone, Ph.D.

(Civilian) Pauline Laurent was born in Illinois in 1945 and graduated from Red Bud High School in 1963. She studied at Southern Illinois University and in 1967 married Sgt. Howard E. Querry IV. Howard had enlisted in the US Army in 1966, completed Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood MO and Advanced at Ft. Ord CA. He attended Officer Candidate School and the Non-Commissioned Officer academy at Ft Benning GA, and served at Ft Jackson SC before being stationed in Vietnam in March 1968. Howard served with Co A, 3rd Battalion, 39th Infantry of the 9th Infantry Division, and was killed in action on May 10, 1968 near Saigon. Pauline and Howard's daughter, Michelle, was born in July 1968. As a single mother and widow, Pauline coped with the loss of her husband by developing a grief counseling practice.

(USA) William ('Bill') Laurie was born in 1945 in Highland Park IL, and graduated from Waukegon High School in 1963. He studied political science at Arizona State University where he was in the Army ROTC. Bill completed Infantry Officer Basic Training at Ft Benning GA, and after intelligence and Vietnamese language training he arrived in Vietnam in October 1971. Bill served with MACV Headwuarters until October 1972 as an intelligence analyst and ARVN liaison officer, with several TDY assignments in the Delta. In 1973 he returned to Vietnam as an analyst with the US Defense Attache's Office in Saigon. He remained in VIetnam until April 1975, when he assisted with the evacuation of American and South Vietnamese personnel. Bill remains active as a writer on the Vietnam war.

Description:
(USAF) LTCOL Allan J. Lavelle was born in Denver CO in 1920. He developed an early interest in flying, and while attending Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia he entered the Civilian Pilot Training Program. During World War II he served as an aviation instructor for the Navy, and remained on active duty until 1945. In 1947 Al joined the Air Force Reserve, and was a public information officer before becoming an intelligence officer and receiving Russian language training. Al's postings included Japan and San Antonio TX, and he retired from the Air Force in 1964. From 1967 to 1973 Al worked in Vietnam for CORDS/AID as Director of Refugees and War Victims in III Corps. In the 1970s Al launched a successful teaching career, which included participation in an exchange program in the Soviet Union in 1975. He now lives in San Antonio TX.

In this interview Col. William E. LeGro describes his military career, which spanned from 1943 until 1977. Entering the military in 1943 as an enlisted soldier, LeGro served in the pacific duringWorld War II and left the military in 1945. In 1949, LeGro returned to the Army as an officer and retired with the rank of Colonel in 1977. During his career in the Army, LeGro served two tours in Vietnam: the first as a G2 with the First Infantry Division from March of 1966 until March of 1967, the second with the Defense Attache Office (DAO) in Saigon, from February of 1973 until the fall of Saigon in April of 1975.

(USAF) Charles Lipe was born in Cooperstown, NY. He graduated from Newark College of Engineering and received his AFROTC commission in 1954. Lipe flew KC-135 refueling aircraft for SAC from 1957-66 and then transitioned to the C-130 which he flew out of Pope Air Field at Fort Bragg, NC, from 1966-1968. In 1968, Lipe transitioned to the O-2 and served with the 20th TASS in Da Nang, Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Lipe flew FAC missions in support of the Marines at Dong Ha and in other areas of I CTZ.

(USN) Charles Lloyd, originally from Atlantic City, New Jersey served in the U.S. Navy from July 1963 until September 1967. Charles went to South Vietnam in September 1965 with Patrol Craft Fast (PCF) 101 based at Phu Quoc Island. He patrolled around the island and the far southwestern coastal area of the country. Charles was evacuated in April 1966 after being wounded in a mine attack.

(USAF) Timothy C. Lockley, originally from Jackson, Mississippi served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 until 1973. He first went to Southeast Asia TDY in December 1966 where he was based out of Tan Son Nhut AB as a member of the maintenance team with the 773rd Tactical Airlift Squadron (TAS) until April 1967. He was among the first crews to partcipate in the dropping of the "Daisy Cutter" ordinance. Tim went back to Southeast Asia TDY from 1968 to 1969 to Mactan and Clark AB, the Philippines, as a member of the 763rd TAS ("The Green Weasels"). He was based out of Saigon and Cam Ranh Bay during this deployment while flying in South Vietnam. Tim was eventually promoted to Maintenance Supervisor and Crew Chief. In 1971, he was sent to Ching Chuan Kan AB, Taiwan ("Peppergrinder") and flew missions in South Vietnam and Laos. In 1972, he spent some time at Udorn RTAFB with the 7th Airborne Command and Control Squadron. Overall, Tim spent 27 months in Southeast Asia over his seven year enlistment.
