Scope & Content:

  • This collection contains one CD-ROM. The contents of the CD are transcribed copies of diary entries made by Sylvester while serving two tours in Vietnam. The first tour was from March 9, 1964 through February 25, 1965, and describes Sylvester's involvement with the 57th Medical Detachment (helicopter ambulance). Sylvester's second tour was from July 4, 1970 to June 28, 1971, when he served with the 54th Medical Detachment (air ambulance). One of the highlights of the diary is Sylvesters participation in Operation Lam Son 719 in the spring of 1971. Along with day-to-day accounts of Sylvester's activities in Vietnam are Lessons Learned, an After-action Report, and additional statistics from Lam Son 719.

Biographical Note:

  • Ernie Sylvester served two tours in Vietnam as a Dust-off (medical evacuation) helicopter pilot in the 54th and 57th Medical Detachments.
