Scope & Content:

  • Slides, spreadsheet of captions, newspaper clippings, photocopy of plaque, Viet Cong chopsticks, DD-214, photographs, and "It Was a Bad Day to Fly" an account of an air drop mission, document Water's tour as a C-7A pilot. The slides were taken from March 1967-March 1968 during Water's tour as a C-7A pilot flying out of Vung Tau Air Base located north of the Mekong Delta. The spreadsheets of captions are for all of the slides. The photographs are of the 25th Flight Order of Daedalinas newsletter, February 2004. The photocopied plaque was awarded to Dudley Waters. "It was a Bad Day to Fly" by Dudley Waters is an account of an actual personnel airdrop mission he flew in the early 1970's. The story was written for submission to the local pilot's (Daedalian) organization at McDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida. Additional items include newspaper clippings, and a sanitized photocopy of Dudley Waters DD-214.

Biographical Note:

  • Lt. Dudley Waters was a C-7A Caribou pilot who served with the 535th Tactical Airlift Squadron in Vietnam from March 1967-March 1968. The 535th was based at Vung Tau Vietnam. The main mission of the 535th TAS was to provide supply and support for the 5th Special Forces camps in II Corps.
