Scope & Content:

  • The Donald Stiles collection is composed of materials related to the Civic Action Program in Vietnam. Included in the collection is a Civic Action Psychological Operations Handbook from the 9th Infantry Division, May 1969; a Civic Action Program book that illustrates tasks and accomplishments of the 9th Infantry Division; Memoranda written by Stiles; and a series of photographs extracted from the Civic Action Program book.

Biographical Note:

  • Donald Stiles was the last ACS-G5 for the 9th Infantry Division before they were withdrawn from Vietnam. Prior to that he served as Division Civic Action Officer and as the operations officer for IV Corps, Military Assistance Command Civil Operation and Revolutionary Development support (MACCORDS), Revolutionary Development Cadre. From 1965 - 1966 he was District Senior Advisor, Giang Long District, Ken Hoa Province.
