Scope & Content:

  • Photographs, documents, memoirs and a drawing document Claude Crowley's stint in the United States Navy from 1945-1946. Thirty-eight photographs chronicle Crowley's duty on the USS Richard B. Anderson from October 26, 1945 to July 12, 1946. The collection also contains two chapters form Crowley's memoirs that describe his naval experience from 1945-1946; Orders and instructions for the USS Richard B. Anderson's commissioning ceremony, October 26, 1945; Pen drawing of the USS Richard B. Anderson made by Crowley, 1945; and a biographical sketch of Crowley that has been sent to the collection file.

Biographical Note:

  • Claude Crowley served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1946. He was part of the first crew of the USS Richard B. Anderson. (DD-786). Crowley graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee in 1950. After graduation, Crowley worked with the United States Department of Agriculture's Soil Conservation Service until 1982. He has been a self-employed public relations consultant and writer since 1982. Crowley married Carolyn Whitaker in 1954.
