  • Photographs and a photocopy of a memo regarding Air America landing sites in Laos.

Biographical Note:

  • Gary Shanks was born in Terra Haute, Indiana in 1947. In 1966, he volunteered for the United States Navy and served a total of four years, ranked as an E-5 Helicopter Flight Mechanic. After he was discharged in 1970, Shanks served three more years in Southeast Asia as a civilian, first with NHA Inc. Helicopter Maintenance Company for two years, then with Air America for one year. During this time, he served at various locations in Vietnam and in Udorn, Thailand. After his service in Southeast Asia, he went to Iran and then returned to college back in the United States.\'1f
