Biographical Note:

  • Louis Poulin was born in 1936 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. In 1953, he volunteered as a career soldier in the United States Army. As the Personnel Staff NCO (Non-Commission Officer) at Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Saigon, RVN, Poulin served with the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 34th General Support Group, performing aircraft maintenance and supply, and then with the Headquarters Company 60th Military Police Battalion in Korat, Thailand. He was involved in the Tet Offensive and three battle campaigns from January 1967 to March 1967. Throughout his service, he was promoted from a Staff Sergeant (E6) to a Sergeant First Class (E7) and received the following awards/citations: two Army Commendation Medals, the Vietnam Campaign Medal with three Battle Stars, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Cross of Galantry with Palm, and the Meritous Unit Citation. After twenty-one years of Army service Poulin retired as a Sergeant First Class (E7). After his service, he became an independent cross-country truck driver from 1973 utnil 1982, and then went into the Civil Service with the United States Navy from 1982 to 1990. From 1990-1996, he was a Greyhound Bus Driver and then became an Interstate Truck Driver again from 1996 to 1998. He is currently the director of the Vietnam Veterans' Gathering, a sponsor of the Moving Wall in Florida.
