Biographical Note:

  • Dave Hammond was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon in 1951. In 1969, he volunteered for the United States Army and served for a total of two and a half years, one of which was served in Southeast Asia. Ranked first as a Private, Hammond served at Chu Lai as an Infantryman and mail clerk with C/5/46 198th Light Infantry Brigade Americal Division, and then was promoted to Sergeant in the span from June 1970 through May 1971. In 1972, he was discharged and received the Combat Infantry Badge, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Service Ribbon. He then rejoined the work force, attended Community College, married and had three sons and became a member of the Americal Divisions Veterans Association.
