Scope & Content:

  • Maps, slides, military handbooks, flight manuals, and study materials collected by James Furlong document his military service in Vietnam.

Biographical Note:

  • James Furlong was born in 1944 in Orange, California. He joined the Air Force in 1965. While serving in Southeast Asia, Furlong was stationed in Vung Tau serving as a C-7A Co-pilot. During the remaining years of the war he flew a C-141 Airlift between the United States and the Republic of Vietnam on a routine basis. After his service in Southeast Asia, Furlong flew for Eastern Airlines from 1973-1989 and currently flies for Federal Express. In 1993, Furlong retired from active reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel. He is a member of the C-7A Caribou Association.
