  • Articles written by Major General Patrick Brady discuss medical evacuation of the woounded via helicopter ambulance, or 'Dust Off', operations in the Vietnam War.

Biographical Note:

  • Patrick H. Brady was born in Phillip, South Dakota, in 1936. He received his commission in the Army after completing ROTC training in 1959. His career in the Army spanned 35 years, two of which were spent as a pilot and operations officer in Southeast Asia with the 57th Medical Detachment in 1964 and the 54th Medical Detachment in 1967-1968. While in Vietnam, he was stationed at Plei Ku, Saigon, Soc Trang and Chu Lai. In Vietnam, Brady served as a captain and major, and received various awards including Distinguished Service Cross, the Air Medal, the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the Congressional Medal of Honor. He earned the MOH for action on 6 January 1968 when he evacuated 51 wounded soldiers via helicopter throughout the course of the day from enemy held territory. He retired in 1993 as a Major General.
