Scope & Content:

  • Less than one linear foot of administrative documents, newspaper articles, and photographs documenting Richard P. Jones' service in Southeast Asia on board the USS Joseph Strauss.

Biographical Note:

  • Richard P. Jones was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1930 and volunteered for the United States Navy in 1950 beginning 22 years of military service. Jones served on the Destroyer Squadron Three Staff aboard the USS Joseph Strauss (DDG-16). During the Vietnam War Jones supervised signal bridges and served as an Assistant Navigator and Chief Master at Arms. Jones was discharged in 1973 with a rank of Senior Chief Signalman. After his service in the United States Navy, Jones had a career as a commercial fisherman. He now resides in Seminole, Florida.
