Scope & Content:

  • Less than one linear foot of a cruisebook for Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three (HAL-3) documents the unit's history and members at Binhthuy, Vietnam (Binh Thuy, Viet Nam), 1971-1972. The cruisebook is an original from 1972 and is in good condition.

Biographical Note:

  • Samuel Ward was born in 1950 in Espanola, New Mexico. In 1968 he volunteered for the U.S. Navy, beginning a total service three and a half years. Just over ten months of this time was spent in Southeast Asia, where Ward was assigned to Helicopter Attack Light Squadron 3 (HAL-3) “Seawolves” as an E-5 (enlisted man), Petty Officer Second Class Ordinanceman, Aviation. Ward held the positions of night crew lead and worked in the ordnance shop during this time and was stationed at Binh Thuy and Can Tho. In 1972 Ward was discharged from the service as an E-5 and went back to work in the oil/gas field in the private sector. He is a member of the HAL-3 Seawolf Association.
