Scope & Content:

  • Approximately two linear feet of slides, photographs certificates, newsletters, and a jungle fatigue shirt document Dan Peckham's service in the United States Navy in Vietnam, 1967-1968 with Combat Communications Boat 91-1 and later Assault Support Patrol Boat A-91-8.

Biographical Note:

  • Dan Peckham was born on August 26, 1947 in Eugene, Oregon. He volunteered for the United States Navy in September 1964. Peckham did a total of 24 years military service with 17 years in the United States Coast Guard and 13 months in Southeast Asia. During his service in Vietnam, Peckham held the positions of Boat Coxswain for Communication Boat 91-1 in 1967 and Boat Captain for Assault Support Patrol Boat 91-8 in 1968. He was stationed in Mekong Delta, Republic of South Vietnam during his tour of duty. Peckham held the rank of E-4 Boatswains Mate 3/C during his service in Vietnam. For his service in Vietnam, Peckham was awarded the following Navy Accommodation Medal with Combat “V” device, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Citation, Two Navy Citations, National Defense Medal, and a Purple Heart which is pending official approval. In 1988 Peckham retired at the rank of E-7 Chief Boatswains Mate. He is currently an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, AMVETS, and American Legion.
