Scope & Content:

  • Less than a linear foot of film, Viet Cong propaganda leaflets, and a log book document Jerry Staples' service in River Division 593, Operation Sling Shot, 1968-1969.

Biographical Note:

  • Jerry Staples was born in Marceline, Missouri in 1937. He volunteered for the United States Navy in 1955. He was in it for 20 years and 2 of the years were spent in Southeast Asia. He served in the MACV from 1964-1965 as a Junk Force Adivisor. He also served in the River Division 593 from 1968- 1969 as a Boat Captain- Patrol Officer. While in souteast asia he was stationed in An Thoi and the Mekong Delta. While there he participated in Operations Slingshot. He won; 2 Bronze Stars, A Combat Action Ribbon, 8 Vietnam Service Stars. Staples now is a member of the Gamewardens of Vietnam. After his service he worked for the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department.
