Scope and Content

Approximately one linear foot of artifacts, photographs, military administrative documents, and correspondence document Bob Gorde's service in the United States Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam War. The military administrative documents include copies of United States Air Force Accident/Incident Reports.

Biographical Note

Robert C. Gorde was born 18 May 1948 in Philadelphia, PA. He entered the U.S. Air Force in June 1967. He served a total of 3 years and 4 months in the USAF, and spent 1969-1970 in Thailand. While there, Gorde was assigned to 635 CS6, HQ 7/13 AF, and 1985 Comm SQ at U-TAPAO Royal Thai Naval Airfield and Udorn AFB. He worked as a clerk, classified safe room courier, and squadron clerk. Udorn AFB was the Asian supply HQ for Air America, as well as Lao Ops, Black Ops, and Special Services for operations in Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, North Vietnam, and Southern China. Gorde was an Airman First Class during his time in Thailand. He was involved in friendly fire incidents and the Battle of Plain De Jars. Gorde was discharged in 1970. Following his military service, he married, attended college, and worked. He is a member of DAV.
