Scope and Content

Approximately three linear feet of United States Navy uniforms, accessories, and a sea bag document Gerald F. Halfman's service aboard the USS Joseph Strauss during the Vietnam War.

Biographical Note

Gerald F. Halfman was born in Gary, Indiana in 1943. He volunteered for the United States Navy in 1961. Halfman did a total of three years and four months with one year service in Southeast Asia. He was assigned to the USS Joseph Strauss from July 15, 1963 to January 16, 1965. During the Vietnam War, Halfman held the position of Fire Control Technician Missile. He was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Throughout Halfman's service in Southeast Asia he held the rank of FTM2 (E-5). He participated in the South China Sea Patrol. For his service in Vietnam, Halfman received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He was discharged in 1965 at the rank of FTM2 (E-5). Halfman currently belongs to the USS Joseph Strauss DDG-16 Association and worked for DoD Navy after his service in the navy.
