Scope & Content:

  • Less than one linear feet of slides, photocopied images, and a book and CD copy of Herman Glister's book titled “Vietnam Diary: From Inside Air Force Headquarters” document Glister's service in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Biographical Note:

  • Herman Gilster graduated from West Point in 1953 and earned an MBA from the University of Denver in 1957 and a Ph.D. from Harvard in Economics in 1968. Gilster spent 27 years in the Air Force where his duties included being a B-47 commander in the Strategic Air Command; professor at the US Air Force Academy; and duty in operations research at the Seventh Air Force Headquarters in Saigon, Pacific Air Force Headquarters in Hawaii, and Air Force Headquarters in Washington DC. Also in his career, Gilster served as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Brookings Institute and Director of International Economic Affairs in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
