Description:
(USA) Michael McGregor was born in South Bend, Indiana, and graduated from Indiana University. He was drafted in 1966, and completed Basic Training at Fort Campbell and Advanced Training at Fort Sill. In September 1967 Mike arrived in Vietnam and was assigned to A Battery, 1/21st Artillery, First Cavalry Division. In this mobile direct field support battery, Mike served both as a Fire Direction Control operator and as a Forward Observer with numerous infantry patrols. His battery participated in Operation Byrd in late 1967 and supported the 2/7th Cavalry in the Quang Tri area in January 1968. Mike participated in Operation Pegasus, in which he was one of the first US servicemen to reach Khe Sanh, and also in Operation Delaware in the A Shau Valley in 1968.
