Description:
(USMC) M. Thomas Powers was born in Dayton OH in 1945, and graduated from Xavier High School in Cincinnati in 1963. Tom attended the University of Dayton and worked for an insurance company until March 1966, when he enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He trained at the Marine Recruit Depot in San Diego CA and at the Marine Tank School at Camp Pendleton CA. Tom arrived in Vietnam in mid-January 1967 and was assigned to the 1st 8-inch Howitzer Gun Battery, attached to the 12th Marines, at Danang and Dong Ha. Tom worked in the Fire Direction Control center, the message center, and in supply. He left Vietnam in February 1968, returning to Ohio, where he continues to live. Interview conducted by Laura M.
