Description: Audio Letter home from Larry Shelton Side A This recording begins with sounds of rifle fire. Not much has been going on lately in Bravo Company's section (no engagements for about a month), however, Alpha Company still has VC in their area. The other day the Viet Cong shot down a helicopter and damaged a gunship. The gunship was able to return to base with a fuel leak. Lately they have been training ARVN's in live fire exercises, when the company is not training the ARVN, the company goes out on patrol. He believes that he will get some time dropped from his tour and leave a few weeks early. While he was in the field, a Korean rock band put on a USO show. Side B Shelton is beginning to pack his belongings to send home because his tour is almost over. He said that he is going to sell his pistol because he doesn't want to get caught mailing it home. There are rumors that many soldiers are getting 45 days dropped from their tours and returning home early. Larry can pick up helicopters, patrols, and river boats on his FM radio and figures that the VC do the same and monitor their actions. While they were out training the ARVN one was killed by a VC booby trap. The VC and North Vietnamese are not openly engaging Allied forces any longer, they are employing booby traps extensively. The VC are using US grenades rather than the less powerful Chinese grenades.
