Description:
(USN) Claude Douglas Crowley was born in Putnam County TN in 1927, and attended public schools in Cookeville TN. He joined the Tennessee State Guard in 1943, and on March 11, 1945, he was sworn in to active duty with the US Navy. He completed basic training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Claude was initially posted to Treasure Island CA, where he participated in several destroyer training cruises. He was present at the October 26, 1945, commissioning ceremony for the USS Richard B. Anderson, and Claude served on the ship until July 1946, when he left active duty. He attended Tennessee Tech University on the GI Bill, and worked for the US Soil Conservation Service in Tennessee before relocating to Texas in the 1960s.
