French Premier Pierre Mendes-France (upper left) was attempting to obtain a cease-fire in Indo-China when a last-minute problem endagered the signing of a truce with Ho Chi Minh (upper center). The trouble was reported to be caused by a demand by Red Chinese Foreign Minister Chou En-Lai (upper right) a statement that his country will not upset a truce with threats or force. Meanwhile, Mendez-France held hurried meetings with Britain's Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden (lower center) and Russia's Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov (lower right).
