The Vietnam Archive will be closed on Friday, March 17, 2006 in observance of the University Spring Break Holiday and our reading room will not be available to researchers on that day. Visitors attending the ARVN conference will have the opportunity to sign up for a scheduled tour of the Archive at the registration table at the conference hotel.

The March/April 2004 issue of the Texas Tech University Alumni Association Magazine, the Texas Techsan, contains a comprehensive article describing how The Vietnam Center was established in 1989, and how its Vietnam Archive has evolved into one of the world’s largest repositories of information about the Vietnam War. The Oral History Project continues to grow at a very fast pace. Since the last update, we have conducted 50 interviews and have placed 104 interviews online in the Virtual Archive. We now have completed 340 interviews with most of them available online, either as pdf files and/or in their audio format. The Oral History Project has also hired a second oral historian, Dr. Laura M. Calkins. Laura earned her Ph.D. in Modern History, specializing in the International History of Southeast Asia, from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. Her dissertation focused on Chinese-Viet Minh relations between 1948 and 1952.
