Mary McLain Saffell has been with the Vietnam Center and Archive at Texas Tech University since May 2002. Mary started as an Assistant Archivist in the Vietnam Archive, and is currently the Associate Director in charge of the Vietnam Archive. In this position, she supervises the faculty and staff of the Vietnam Archive, oversees the day to day operations of the Archive, establishes the Archive's policies and procedures, and coordinates numerous special projects, including the Vietnam Center and Archive's 20th Anniversary Ball in 2009. Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Arts in History from Southern Mississippi, and a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin. In August 2005, Mary became a Certified Archivist, and was awarded Tenure status at Texas Tech University in 2009. She has recently volunteered at the Texas Tech University Therapeutic Riding Center, and has participated in numerous professional workshops and seminars. In May 2009, she presented at the Society of Southwest Archivists annual conference. Mary is a member of the Society of American Archivists, the Academy of Certified Archivists, and the Society of Southwest Archivists.
