Exhibits

While we continue to raise funds for our new building, which will include a state-of-the-art museum, we provide small displays of our material at our current location in the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library and create online exhibits. These exhibits will generally feature a specific subject or be in response to an anniversary or celebration. All of our new exhibits, virtual and physical, will be featured on our homepage and through other online resources.

Physical Exhibits

Permanent Exhibit

  • The Archive of the Vietnam Conflict - a general overview of the mission of the Vietnam Archive with examples of some of the materials in our collection from letters home and photographs to a deck of survival cards.

Rotating Exhibits

  • The Department of the Army Special Photographic Office (DASPO) was created in 1962, when Colonel Arthur A. Jones received a directive to form a unit to provide documentary films to the U. S. Army Pentagon, and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. By 1968, a permanent unit had been stationed in Saigon, to cover military activities in Vietnam. When on assignment in Vietnam, DASPO teams operated much like civilian journalists covering the war, but with much greater access. They were assigned projects, created their own stories, and covered combat. DASPO photographers captured some of the most recognizable images of the Vietnam Conflict.

Special Exhibits

  • A Day in the Life of an American Soldier in Vietnam As part of the ongoing 20th Anniversary celebration of the Vietnam Center and Archive, a photograph and artifact exhibit entitled "A Day in the Life of an American Soldier in Vietnam" is currently on display until mid December of this year. Consisting of over 25 black and white photographs and a selected number of artifacts, this exhibit will provide the visitor with stimulating and descriptive highlights of our highly unique collection materials. The exhibit is self guided and open to the public, free of charge, Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 5:00pm. All of the staff at the Vietnam Center and Archive hope that you will join us in celebrating 20 years of success by stopping by to view this exhibit!
