Scope and Content

Less than one linear foot of 16mm film and documents chronicle Alfred Platt's experience with the Vietnam Conflict.

Biographical Note

Alfred Platt was born in Houston, Texas in 1941. In 1963 Platt joined the U.S. Air Force after he was drafted into the U.S. Army beginning a total of over eight years of service, three of which were served in Southeast Asia. Platt's first assignment in Southeast Asia began in 1968 when he served with both the 39th and 45th Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) Teams, 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron (TASS), attached to the 23rd Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) Division. During this time, Platt served in II Corps, South Vietnam as a captain. Platt was then transferred to the Raven Forward Air Controller (FAC) Project 404 in December of 1968 until 1970, serving in Laos as the Raven Site Commander. During his time in Southeast Asia, Platt was involved in Operations About Face, Nighty Night, North Wind, and Junction City Jr., along with various Laotian campaigns. In 1973 Platt permanently retired from service from combat injuries ranked as a captain and entered rehabilitation for five years. He is currently a member of the following associations: Raven FACs, Special Ops Association, Thailand Laos Cambodia Brotherhood, Air Commando Association, Air America Association, and various others.
