Scope and Content

Less than half a linear foot of Screaming Eagle newspaper excerpts, a war trophy firearm registration form, and a short-timer's drawing document Michael J. (Mickey) Allums' service in Vietnam with Tiger Force, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry in 1967.

Biographical Note

Michael J. Allums was born in 1948 in Jacksonville, Florida. He volunteered in 1965 for the United States Army and did a total of twenty years of service with fifteen months in Vietnam. While in Vietnam, he was assigned to several units including: HHD 9th Aviation Battalion Pathfinder Detachment, 9th Infantry Division from January to May 1967; Tiger Force, HHC, S-2, 1/327th Airborne Infantry, 1st Brigade, and 101st Airborne Division, May 1967 to January 1968, HHC 1/327 4.2 Mortar Platoon. During his assignment with HHC 1/327 he witnessed the bombing on FSB Birmingham by Marine Corp pilots which killed seven Americans. Allums also participated in Tet I and Tet II and both counteroffensives. He received the Combat Infantry Badge and Army Commendation for his service in Vietnam. In 1992, he retired at the rank of Sergeant First Class.
