Letters written by Hilary Smith to her father during her service as a civilian nurse caring for Montagnards at Minh Quy Hospital in Kontum during the early 1970s. Also included in the donation is an early manuscript draft of Smith's book 'Lighting Candles' which describes her experiences at Minh Quy Hospital. Smith mentions that she later edited the book from this original draft at her father's request because he felt it was crude and needed to be sanitized. As a result, Smith feels this first draft is closer to the reality of what occurred at Minh Quy than the later edited version.
