New Communist Attacks Blocked by Army of Vietnam 23rd Division: ; The 23rd Division of the Republic of Vietnam Army (ARVN) has been inflicting heavy losses on the North Vietnamese Army since the start of new Communist attacks in South Vietnam's central highlands. A rich farming region, the area also is one of the main routes for Communist attacks on South Vietnam's capital Saigon. ; One of the units which has been instrumental in repelling the enemy is the 45th Regiment of the Division. Located just outside the Cambodia-South Vietnam border-town of Duc Lap, 250 kilometers north of Saigon, the 45th has a hilltop artillery base and headquarters. The Regiment's three infantry battalions are spread in a giant fan into the countryside to provide maximum protection for local citizens.
