Lynn Ragle Huddleston was born on December 21, 1941, and grew up in Ralls, Texas. He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1966 where he was active in the Alpha Phi Omega fraternity and the Army ROTC, receiving his 2nd lieutenant commission from the program. He attended basic training at Fort Eustis in Virginia in May 1966, and earned his Army aviation wings at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in June of 1967. He arrived in Vietnam later in June 1967 and served in the 74th Reconnaissance Aviation Company of the 145th Aviation Battalion. On September 26, 1967, he was flying his O-1D aircraft, with passenger Staff Sergeant Stephen J. Geist of the 5th Special Forces Group, on an aerial reconnaissance mission of the Minh Than area. Huddleston checked in via radio a few times during the flight, but the aircraft never arrived at its destination. Search and rescue teams never found any evidence of Huddleston, Geist, or their aircraft. He was listed as MIA one year later and was eventually promoted to captain and declared killed in action on January 24, 1974. He was married to Jannie Stark and had a daughter, Lujean Lynn.
