Christopher Rieber grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1964 with a Bachelors of Arts in Spanish. After his graduation from Tech he continued his education, graduating with an MA/MBA in Finance from Inter-American University of Puerto Rico in 1968. In December of 1968, Lieutenant Rieber went to Vietnam and served as the communications security advisor to the Vietnamese Navy and as a Navy cryptologist for the Naval Advisory Group until December 1969. During his career he earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V" and gold star, Vietnamese Staff Service Medal, Vietnamese Training Honor Medal, and a Combat Action Ribbon. He later attended an executive MBA program at UCLA, completing the course in 1984. He retired from the Navy as a captain in 1996 and is married with two children.
