LUBBOCK - - High school teachers from Texas and around the nation will attend a conference at The Vietnam Center at Texas Tech University June 11 through June 13. The purpose of the conference is to discuss problems and methods of teaching the Vietnam War. The solutions presented will include innovative curricula beigndeveloped at the SAS Institute in North Carolina and advice from noted veterans of the war.

The conference begins at 7:00 p.m., June 11, with a reception in the rotunda of the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library and continues through June 13 with nine sessions. Topics include using the World Wide Web in courses addressing the Vietnam War, teaching the air war, teaching military aspects of the Vietnam War and implementing curriculum in the United States.

Teachers attending the conference will meet keynote speaker, Colonel Roger Donlon, ret. Colonel Donlon is the first recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor for his action in Vietnam. He currently serves as executive director of the Westmoreland Scholarship Foundation.

Teachers will have the opportunity to meet Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt, Jr., commander of the United States Navel Forces in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970 and chief of Naval Operations from 1970 to 1974.

Admiral Zumwalt will speak at the noon luncheon on June 12. Colonel Donlon will speak at the banquet that night.
