  • Larry Charles Jones was born on October 1, 1938, and grew up in Dublin, Texas. He studied at Texas Tech University in 1963 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in International Trade in 1964. While at Tech he was active in the ROTC. First Lieutenant Jones served in Vietnam from August 1966 until April 1967. He flew UH-1D Huey helicopters for B Company, 229th Aviation Battalion of the 1st Cavalry Division. While in Vietnam he served in An Khe and earned the Purple Heart and an Air Medal.He also earned a Silver Star for heroism by participating in an evacuation mission in which he landed his helicopter in an area under enemy fire to pick up wounded men from an embattled infantry unit. Jones left the military at the rank of captain. He is married to Dorothy Little Jones and has two daughters, Crystal Lind Jones Maher and Laurie Jones David.
