  • Warren L. Nelson was born on March 20, 1947, and grew up in Houston, Texas. He started his studies at Texas Tech University in 1967, but was drafted into the Army after his freshman year. He went to Vietnam in March of 1968 and served with the 1st Cavalry Division. The first half of his tour was spent in the Khe Sanh and Quang Tri areas where he participated in Operation Pegasus. The second half of his tour was spent in the A Shau Valley, Tay Ninh, Quan Loi, Phao Binh, and Katum. Duringhis tour, he received the Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Expert Rifle Badge, and the National Defense Service Medal. After his service in Vietnam, Nelson returned to Texas Tech in 1970 and graduated with his BBA in Finance in 1972. He is married to Joyce A. Nelson and has a daughter, Abigail Landt.
