“1969: Vietnamization and the Year of Transition in the Vietnam War”

The Vietnam Center and Archive and Institute for Peace and Conflict at Texas Tech University are pleased to announce the participants in our plenary session on April 26, 2019, for our conference on the year 1969 and Vietnamization. Dr. Pierre Asselin, Professor of History at San Diego State University, will lead a discussion with Dr. George Herring, Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky and Dr. Lloyd Gardner, Professor Emeritus at Rutgers University. We hope you will be able to join us for this exciting discussion with two of our nation’s most prominent and accomplished scholars of the Vietnam War. We are equally proud to announce that our banquet speaker that evening will be Dr. Fred Logevall, Professor of History at Harvard University, and recipient of the Pulitzer Prize in History in 2013 for his work, Embers of War: The Fall of an Empire and the Making of America’s Vietnam.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Conference registration includes the reception Thursday evening, lunch and banquet on Friday, and lunch on Saturday. There will be a cash bar service on Thursday and Friday evening. For the banquet Friday evening, we will be hosting that event at the International Cultural Center (ICC) at Texas Tech University. We will have a bus available to transport everyone from the MCM Elegante to the ICC Hall of Nations with an initial pickup time of 6:00 PM. After transporting the first group, the bus will return to the MCM and pick up a second group at approximately 6:30 PM. After that, the bus will remain at the ICC and will return guests to the MCM after the completion of the banquet. The banquet meal will include a tossed green salad, ribeye steak, potatoes, broccoli, and dessert. If you have any dietary restrictions that require a special meal (vegan, gluten-free, etc.…) please let us know after you have registered for the conference so we may assist you.

Please note: We are aware that the MCM Elegante is currently showing as booked for the conference weekend. We are working with them to address this issue to include increasing our room block as well as the possibility of an overflow hotel with shuttle service to and from the conference. We will post additional information about this as it becomes available. For now, there is another hotel in very close proximity to the MCM:
