Ms. DaNita Buckley

We are very sad to inform our friends and supporters that Ms. DaNita Buckley died yesterday, February 7, 2011.  She spent the last nine years with us at Texas Tech University and was a wonderful friend and colleague.  We miss her very much.  We will post information about memorial and funeral services when they become available.

  1. Sad news. DaNita was always helpful to faculty, staff, and students.

  2. DaNita was a key member of the Vietnam Center team. Her loss, far too early, is a great setback for the Center and Texas Tech. We will remember her, professionally, for her careful handling of the Vietnam Center’s funding, and for her cheerfulness and attention to the details of the Vietnam Centers work. She always presented a very cheerful and professional image for us. Her interests extended beyond just the immediate work at hand. She was interested in Vietnam and Texas Tech’s role there, and to better understand that mission, she traveled to Vietnam and Cambodia to get some first-hand impressions. But far moroe important than her impact on Texas Tech, she was a caring mother who balanced the need for work with a desire to care for her children, and at the same time worked toward obtaining an MBA in order to better herself.

Speaking personally, my wife and I have lost a close and warm friend, and of course, her family confronts the infinitely greater sorrow of her early death. May God bless her and her family. Jim Reckner

  3. I worked with Danita at Drane Hall before she went to the Viet Nam center. She was a joy to know. I will miss her.
